Epilepsy Help India

The prevalence of epilepsy is 1 percent, which means 1 out of 10 people may have seizures in their lifetime. Seizures are scary to witness and people watching seizures get into panic mode without helping the person.
Here is a simple guideline about managing a person with Seizures.

Dos:
1. Stay with Person
2. Time the Seizure
3. Make the person comfortable - Position - Give lateral position Clothes - lose the tight close Head - Keep something soft below the head, pillow or folded jacket Speak - Speak Calmly and give assurance
4. Clear the surrounding area - remove hard and sharp objects from the surrounding so that there are fewer chances of injury
5. Give Rescue treatment - If seizures last more than 5 minutes then give midazolam rescue therapy as advised by your neurologist.

Dont's:
1. Don't hold the person
2. Don't restrain any active movements
3. Don't put anything in the mouth, e.g finger, spoon, etc; this will injure the person
4. Don't give any  CPR or mouth to mouth breathing while someone is having an active convulsion
5. Don't give water, food while the person is unconscious.
